Rosemond H. Brown

87, of St. Petersburg, passed away on April 6, 2009. She was initiated as a charter member of Alpha Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma in 1962 at the Vinoy Hotel. She was born in Jericho, Vermont, where she lived with her parents and older brother. In 1942, she graduated from Johnson Normal School in Vermont with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. This began a forty year teaching career. Her first two years of teaching were on an island in Lake Champlain where she taught sixth, seventh and eighth graders. At times there were over forty students in her classes. Then she taught five years in Essex Junction, Vermont near Burlington, where she was a Girl Scout leader. In 1949 she moved to St. Petersburg, where she taught at North Ward Elementary. During that time she supervised many interns. She retired from North Ward in 1982. She says, " I have nice memories of spending time with elementary school aged children." Since retirement, she has enjoyed just being home. She has kept in touch with family and friends, she has traveled, done volunteer work, modeled clothing, worked on crossword puzzles, tutored, read, played the organ, enjoyed theater and musical programs. On Sundays she has watched the "Hour of Power" where she hears about positive thinking. A funeral service will be held at Anderson-McQueen Funeral home, NE Chapel on Friday at 11:00am with burial to follow at Memorial Park.
