Rosie Tokiko Shimojima, 90, passed away peacefully Christmas morning at Franklin House in Sumner, Washington. She was born on February 7, 1922 in Kent and graduated from Kent High School. She was known to Auburn residents from the years she worked at Weese Jewelry and Cavanaugh Hardware. She was an active member of St. Matthew Episcopal Church and served as secretary and historian for the White River Valley Japanese American Citizens League. She loved gardening, baking, quilting, and caring for her grandchildren. Rosie will always be remembered for her caring concern for others. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Sauce, and siblings: Mary Norikane, Joe Hiramatsu, and Helen Nishimoto. She is survived by her sister, Alice Baba; children: Brenda Kikuchi (George), Donna Hutchens, Linda Lewis (Harry), John Shimojima(Janis), and Shelley Roberts (Steve); grandchildren: Marc Kikuchi( Petra), Larry Hutchens (Fawn), Grant Hutchens, Jesse Roberts, and McKenzie Roberts; and great-grandchildren: Grace, Sophia, Ella, Kari, and Roy. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew Episcopal Church, Auburn, at 1 PM on Saturday, January 5, which would have been Rosie and Sauce’s 69th anniversary. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Rosie Shimojima Memorial c/o St Matthew Church, 123 L St NE, Auburn, WA 98002.
