Roy H. Behnke

Behnke- Dr. Roy H. 84 of Gulfport passed away Friday November 4, 2005 at Menorah Manor, St. Petersburg. Born in Chicago Illinois, he came to the Tampa Bay area in 1973 from Indianapolis Indiana. A physician, he was the founding chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of South Florida, Tampa. He was a member of the American College of Physicians, and was Methodist. During World War II, he served in the Army Medical Corp. Survivors include three sons, Donald of Ruskin FL, Michael of Winter Haven and Roy Jr. of Great Wolford, England; a daughter Elise Minkoff of Gulfport; two brothers, Donald of Arizona and Everett of Mishawaka Indiana; a sister Verna of Texas; nine grandchildren and one great grandson. David C. Gross Funeral Homes and Cremation Center, Central Avenue Chapel, St. Petersburg is serving the family. Funeral services and burial will be private. Memorial donations can be made to the Ruth Behnke Botanical Garden Endowment Fund of the USF Foundation, Fund #42-6650 or to the Roy H. Behnke Distinguished Lectureship Endowment of the USF Foundation, Fund #25-6002. Service Information
