Roy Reid Edinger
August 10th, 1948 - August 17th, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roy Reid Edinger, who left us on August 17, 2024, at the VA Hospital, in Seattle, Washington. Born on August 10, 1948, in Everett, Washington, Roy's life was a testament to loyalty, kindness, and an enduring sense of adventure.
Roy was a proud alumnus of Centralia High School, class of 1966, and Centralia Community College, where he earned his AA Degree in Forestry in 1975. His dedication and patriotism led him to serve his country faithfully as a member of the U.S. Navy from December 15, 1966, to February 16, 1970. A Vietnam War veteran, he attained the rank of E4, a testimony to his bravery and commitment.
In his personal life, Roy was known for his strength, compassion, and a remarkable sense of humor. He never met a stranger. He carried these traits with him, endearing himself to everyone he met. His loyalty and honesty were cornerstones of his character, and he demonstrated considerate behavior, kindness, and generosity throughout his life.
Roy was an avid hunter and fisherman, with a deep love for the great outdoors. He often pursued elk and deer with enthusiastic fervor and found great joy in fishing. His passion for travel led him to many incredible places, but his heart belonged to Thailand’s Phuket Island, where he and his beloved wife Jacqueline (Jackie), along with family and friends, created countless cherished memories.
Roy leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts: his devoted wife of 51 years, Jackie Santee-Edinger; sons Brett (Michelle) and Lawrence; daughter Candace; brothers, Ray Edinger of Olympia, WA, Mike Walthall of Tucson, AZ, Robert (Cathy) Swann of Philadelphia, MS. Sisters, Jean Swann-Loften of Isney, AL, Renie (Mike) Tucker of St Louis, MO, Cheryl (Norm) Hall of Olathe, KS, and Margo Watkins of Otis, OR, along with 8 beloved and cherished grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; Roy is preceded in death by his adoptive parents Lawrence and Donna Edinger and by his biological parents, Ellen (Bassett) Hilton and Robert Swann.
Roy's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his legacy of love, compassion, and humor will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. His life was a journey marked by generosity and a love for adventure, and his memory will live on in the stories and hearts of his family and friends.
Per Roy’s wishes there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Fisher House – Seattle VA Hospital, Fisherhouse.org, commemorating the compassion and love that Roy freely shared with the world.
May Roy rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
