"Holyoke - Roy F. Gionfriddo , 77, passed away February 4, 2015, at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Holyoke on April 6, 1937, he was the son of Antonio and Casilda (Fusari) Gionfriddo. He served his country in the US Air Force from 1955-1957. Roy was a lifelong resident of Holyoke and retired from the Holyoke Fire Department, where he was employed for 30 years as the Supervisor of Motor Vehicles. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed many weekend trips with the Easthampton Harley Owners Group. For 15 years, he and his wife owned and operated Carvel Ice Cream in Holyoke. Roy's other passion was restoring antique cars. He won many trophies and traveled extensively to attend the Jaguar Concours D'Elegance. Roy will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Jeannie (Ziomek), along with his two children, Tina Fleischer of Calais, VT, and Mark Gionfriddo of Holyoke, and Mark's fiancée Wendy Coffey and her daughter, Emily, both of Milford, NH. He also will be missed by his only grandchild, Aquinnah Fleischer, of Calais, VT. His family thanks his nurse, Sherry O'Connell, and his physician, Dr. Claudia Koppelman, for their excellent care of Roy over the four years of his illness. All services were privately held, with Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements. Donations may be made in his name to the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018, or to the Dakin Humane Society, PO Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101-6307."
