Roy J Thorpe Born at home near Reynolds, ND, on April 5, 1916, Roy Thorpe left this life at 93 on October 27, 2009 at Tacoma Lutheran Home. Survivors include sons Gary and Jerry (Janet); daughter Barbara Moore; sister Francis Zarling; grandson Eric (Annika) and great granddaughter Linn a. Preceding him in death were his parents Gustav and Inga as well as siblings Jesse, Hazel, Gladys, Mayme, and twin sister Esther. Sue, his wife of 68 years, died in February 2008, after which Roy's health and zest for life declined. Proud of his Norwegian heritage, Roy looked forward to a bottomless cup of coffee, family activities, his many friends, community lutefisk dinners and the homemade lefse sent for many years by his mother. He raised his young sons in a farm-like setting where they grew chickens, rabbits, fruit, and vegetables. Later in life, having served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, he found great joy in his cabin cruiser, selling cars and hunting with friends. A memorial service has been scheduled, for 3:00 pm at the Tacoma Lutheran Home, on November 15th. (1301 North Highlands Parkway) Please inquire at [email protected] for details. Donations in Roy's memory would be welcome at Tacoma Lutheran Home.
