Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 30, 1920, Roy began an apprenticeship as a machinist in 1940 with Proctor & Schwartz. He enlisted in the US Army on December 8, 1941 so he wouldn’t be drafted and sent to Iceland or Alaska. Roy served over a year in Panama before traveling to the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. He proudly served in the 805th Engineer Aviation Battalion until receiving an honorable discharge in 1945. Roy’s great grandchildren Arianna and Kailina Romo of Renton, WA, Davis Sly of Beaverton, OR, and Jack Maillet of Troy, NH. Roy was preceded in death by his daughter Donna Marie Welling and wife Nancy Todd, both who left this earth in April 2010, and his brother William Todd who departed in July 2010. They are awaiting your arrival with open arms. Roy loved his family and moved around the United States to support them. He worked for Proctor & Schwartz, Milton Roy Chemical Pump Company, Atomic Energy Commission, Boeing, Texas Instruments, Lockheed, and Acurex. Roy finally retired from Boeing in 1986 and remained in Bellevue, WA for a few more years. In 1989, Roy and Nancy moved to a new home in Sedro Woolley, WA where he remained until June 2010. After the loss of his wife, Roy moved to the Regency Newcastle Senior Living Apartments in Newcastle, WA. He met many new friends and enjoyed the mystery drives, hymn singing, and Margarita Monday’s. Roy will especially miss Shawna, JJ, Jean, Ann, Phyllis, Chuck and George. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4315 129th PL SE, Bellevue, WA (Factoria area) at 11 am. A reception will follow the funeral service. A full military funeral will be held next week at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA, where Roy will be laid to rest with his love of his life.
