Ruben Fuerte
June 22nd, 1952 - August 22nd, 2019
Ruben Fuerte, 67 passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 after fighting a courageous battle against cancer. Ruben was born on June 22, 1952 and lived in Salinas for most of his life. Ruben was a loving gentle soul. Ruben loved to spend time with extended family and friends as his children live out of the area. He was a hard worker and a person you could count on anytime you needed help. His laugh was contagious, he loved music, and he loved to attend Operatic shows when possible. He was able to travel to San Francisco to see the Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King with his brother and other family members. Ruben was an avid collector of guitars, books and art. In his youth he owned his own business and was so handy, he even built his own cabin in the hills. He was a true “renaissance man”; there was not any type of handy work he did not excel in. Ruben is survived by his children, Naomi, Zachariah (Robin), Peter (Shari), April and Adom (Traci) as well as all of their children and extended family. Ruben, will be greatly missed by his brother Alfredo Fuerte, his wife Lidia Fuerte and their children Sandy, Alma (Saul), Fred (Ana), Lillian (Bryan), Erika (Paul), Crystal (Alberto) and all of their children and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Felicia, his brother George Fuerte and his beloved daughter Ruth Ann Fuerte Smilari. The family would like to extend a heartfelt, thank you to Steve his roommate and best friend for all the care he gave to our loved one in his last days. The family will be having a private ceremony. He will be laid to rest at a later date.

We Entrusted Ruben Fuerte's Care To
Healey Mortuary
At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
