Ruby Clare Morewood
August 25th, 1934 - July 28th, 2024
“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.” -Thomas Campbell
Ruby Clare Morewood, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Colorado Springs, CO, on July 28. She was born on August 25, 1934, in Fayette, MS, to Elsie and James Wright.
Ruby grew up, lived, and worked all over the United States, to include Mississippi, Kentucky, Iowa, Louisiana, New York, Tennessee, Illinois, Florida, New Jersey, and Colorado. She graduated from Messick High School in Memphis, TN, in 1952, and attended college at the University of Tennessee. Ruby excelled in all her professional jobs, which included early computer operations, computing wind shear data for missile launches at Cape Canaveral, FL, office managing, and running her own daycare business where she became “Mom-Mom” to so many children.
Ruby’s passion in her early life was helping to raise her younger sister. In adulthood she was dedicated to her family, and the many children she cared for in her daycare business. She enjoyed the Presbyterian Church where she was very active in Florida and New Jersey. Ruby served as Deacon Moderator for several years for the Rockledge Presbyterian Church in Rockledge, FL. An avid crocheter, she crocheted and donated well over 400 lap robes for three veteran centers in Colorado, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars used her lap robes for Honor Flights out of Denver. Ruby received several awards from the Pikes Peak Chapter Sons of the American Revolution for her dedicated service to veterans in Colorado. Ruby’s desire to help others was evident throughout her life.
Significant events and memories in Ruby’s life included as a child winning a Shirley Temple look-alike contest and almost going to Hollywood. She spent part of her childhood living at Stanton Hall, an antebellum home in Natchez, MS. Ruby was known for her Christmas baking for family and friends, and she enjoyed an Alaskan cruise with her best friend. The challenges of raising identical twin daughters were always a topic of discussion for Ruby.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; older sister; and husband.
Ruby is survived by her sister Carolyn; son Gary; daughters Denise and Linnea; son-in-law Rich; daughter-in-law Irene; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; friends; and military veterans. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.” -Thomas Campbell
