Russell Ruel
July 15th, 1959 - July 14th, 2017
"Granby - Russell P. Ruel, 57, of Taylor St., passed away on July 14, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Born July 15, 1959 in Holyoke, MA, son of Robert N. and Ruth (Mondor) Ruel of Granby. Russell was a life long resident of Granby and worked for many years for the family business Ruel Excavating. He was employed by Columbia Gas as a Locator for 12 years and belonged to the Steelworkers Union Local 12026. He was a Union Steward for 6 years, and assisted with contract negotiations. Russell was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, canoeing, hunting and gardening. He was a member of Trout Unlimited as well as a former Leader of Boy Scouts Troop 305 for many years. Besides his parents, he will be deeply missed by his wife, Heather (Green) Ruel of Granby, three children Lee Lariviere, Dean Ruel and Rose Ruel all of Granby. He will also be missed by a special cousin Paul Ruel of South Hadley, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as many friends and Union members. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 1st from 5:00-8:00 p.m at the Beers and Story Funeral Home, 646 Newton Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, August 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ, 235 State Street, Granby, MA 01033. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either the Church of Christ, PO Box 177 Granby, MA 01033 or to the D'Amour Center for Cancer Care, 3350 Main St., Springfield, MA 01107.
