Ruth L. (Evans) Buffington, 88 of Sun City Center, Florida, formerly of Minersville/Pottsville Pennsylvania area. She passed away on 2-17-2017 in the home of Karl Buffington and Larry Piechoski. She married Charles L. Buffington at the Salvation Army, Pottsville Pennsylvania. Charles passed in 2006 after 62 years of marriage. She was an active member in the Salvation Army Ministry working to support the church and many ministerial activities participating in many religious groups and clubs. Ruth and Charles met some wonderful friends who were Pentecostal and they joined Bible Tabernacle Church, Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania in 1994. After Charles passed, she decided to move to Florida. Her son Karl was already there and what better place to be in her senior years. She found new Christianity at the SouthShore United Church of Christ in Sun City Center. It was just like Ruth who again made new friends who fell in love with her. We all have heartbreaks in our lives but hers was losing her grandson Chuck Buffington in a terrible traffic accident at the young age of 24 in 6-23-99 Ruth spent many of her working years as a seamstress. Her greatest joy was her garden, growing fruits and vegetables, filling shelves of can goods and her freezer with many goodies. She was also a super baker of Cookies and Cakes. Her homemade Pies, Perogies and Halupkis (Stuffed Cabbages) will surely be missed. Ruth is survived by her son Karl B. Buffington and son-in-law Larry Piechoski, son Charles L. Buffington and wife Barbara, grandson Craig Buffington and wife Vikki, (and soon to be Baby Buffington). Her dear sister Karen Mitchell, sister in law and best friend Dorothy Pinkerton, and many nieces and nephews. She was a devoted Christian all her life and made many people glad she touched their lives. Below is a text she kept in her bible. LIFE IS A VANISHING VAPOR What is your life? "It is a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (James 4:14). This bit of scripture has the answer. I believe that nobody really knows what life is until they experience the death of a loved one. To stand there helpless and watch as life fades away and wonder why this had to happen. Why do bad things happen to good people? I'm so thankful that I'm a Christian. My God has given me strength to overcome all obstacles. I know that someday we all must face our own death and how much easier it will be if we have the blessed hope of eternal life given free to all who will accept Jesus. One of my favorite scriptures is John 11: 25-26. "Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. Whosoever believeth in me shall never die". He has now taken me to be with him, no more worry, fear, sorrow, or sickness, just JOY. A Memorial Service for Ruth will be held 3 P.M. March 3, 2017 at the SouthShore United Church of Christ, 1501 La Jolla Ave, Sun City Center, FL Please join the family after the service for some light refreshments. Flowers or donations are requested to the Leukemia Research Foundation (http://www.allbloodcancers.org/)
