Ms. Ruth Burkhalter passed away January 4, 2021. She was born January 23, 1943 in Sumter, SC to the late Robbie M. and Rudell Johnson. Ruth enjoyed spending time reading her books and gardening. She was an active member of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church and a very charitable person, spending many of her later days crocheting blankets and quilts for the homeless. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Robbie M. and Rudell Johnson; her husband, Ralph Lee Burkhalter (CA); and her sisters, Judy Eldridge (Morehead, KY) and Ethel “Midge” Burgess (Chapin, SC). Ruth is survived by her brother, Robbie V. Johnson (Chapin, SC); her daughters, Stellan Hansen (New York, NY) and Cheryl Hawley (Chuck Hawley, West Columbia, SC); her granddaughters, Leighanna Hawley (West Columbia, SC) and Lauren Hawley (West Columbia, SC); her nephews, Randy Gill (Swansea, SC), Michael Eldridge (Morehead, KY), Gregory Eldridge (Jackson, KY), and Kevin Eldridge (Dundas, Ontario Canada); and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Jessica Gill (Swansea, SC), Jordyn Gill (Swansea, SC), Robin Eldridge (Dundas, Ontario Canada), Duncan Eldridge (Dundas, Ontario Canada), and Adam Eldridge, (Dundas, Ontario Canada). Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Rd., Lexington, SC 29073, on Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 4-6 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, 2721 Dutch Fork Rd., Chapin, SC 29036, on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 11am, with an Internment Service to follow at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Rd. Lexington, SC 29073 at 1 pm.
