Ruth Marie Coatman

January 16th, 1937 - March 15th, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that we convey the passing of Ruth Marie Coatman, who at the age of 87, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Fairacres Manor in Greeley.

Ruth, a long-time resident of Greeley, Colorado, was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Larry Coatman, for 70 years and a loving mother to their three sons whom she cherished deeply.

Ruth was born in Fairbury, Nebraska on January 16, 1937, to Lester Joseph and LaVerne Genevieve (Arnold) Layton. She spent most of her young life there with her siblings and attended High School before marrying her sweetheart, Larry, September 12, 1953. Larry and Ruth began their young family in Nebraska, but moved to Greeley, Colorado in 1965.

Ruth was a kind and caring Wife, Mom, and Grandmother who found great pleasure in spending time with her family and being at home. She loved hosting dinners and Holidays. She loved baking and was famous, even outside her family, for her delicious cinnamon rolls, Christmas fudge and caramels she would make endlessly to bless those she loved.

Ruth was a devoted Christian. She was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene for many years. She enjoyed participating in Women's Bible studies and going on trips with her church ladies. Whenever she was asked, she volunteered and helped with Sunday and Bible School. Ruth genuinely loved the Lord, and she shared his love with her family.

Ruth never missed a birthday. She knew everyone's special day, and you could tell her card from everyone else's by her unique personal touches. She took the time to give every single card her special embellishment and her personal well thought out message. Writing letters was one of Ruth's favorite pastimes, and she cherished her cards and letters from her friends and family. She was an avid reader and loved to share her thoughts about her books.

Ruth took pleasure in attending her family's sporting events. She was known to get really involved in the game from time to time, while supporting her kids and grandkids. She also attended school and church programs regularly, as well as any other occasions where she could see her loved ones shine.

Ruth is blessed and survived by her husband, Larry Coatman; her sons, Lonny Coatman and fiancé Mechelle Rathbun, Rick Coatman and wife Terry and Tim Coatman and wife Lori all of Greeley; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; her siblings, George Layton and wife Carol, Evelyn Kapke and husband Richard, all of Fairbury, NE; And her sister-in-law, Sharon Layton of Longmont. She was preceded in death by her parents and her 2 siblings, Don and Mary Layton.

A Life Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Adamson Life Celebration Home. There will be a reception following the service.
