Ruth H Gaines
January 11th, 1940 - August 5th, 2024
Noble, kind, and resilient, Ruth H. Gaines, lived a rich life by serving God and her church, and most importantly, by loving and nurturing her family.
This gentle, compassionate soul was born near Sussex County, Virginia. Her parents, Alfred and Elizabeth, were married and had farming land bestowed long ago to their family from the plantation owner after the Civil War. In high school, Ruth excelled in academics, especially mathematics (Algebra III) and foreign languages (Honors French) – the very first graduate in her family.
Never forget that Ruth was also a selfless “soldier on the battlefield of humanity” – she was always known to be a protector, fiercely so. Her belief was that injustice can be overcome by actions of the truthful and the righteous via both prominent and every-day people.
Ruth proudly supported many organizations, events, etc. such Black Women for Political Action; NAACP; Urban League; Ebony Fashion Fair; and so on. For El Paso County elections, Ruth was selected as a Precinct Judge volunteer, and this was her greatest personal achievement to ensure the most critical component of the Civil Rights Voting Act – every vote does count; therefore, must be counted.
This beautiful, highly intelligent mother, grandmother, sister, church member, widow, and friend unfortunately succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease. Her surviving children are Monica T; Pamela S; Brian G; Marc G; and Lisa B. Her grandchildren are Dr. Telpriore T; Dr. Raymond T; Venson B; Evan G; and Erin G. Her last remaining siblings are Roxianna R; Jean H; and Gloria F. Sadly, her husband, Arthur L. Gaines, passed in March 2019.
May God watch over her as she makes her journey home … Amen.
