Ruth Calhoun Lais

Ruth Calhoun Lais, 95, of Tribes Hill, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. Born on November 18, 1920 in Sammonsville, she was a daughter of the late Frank Calhoun and Nellie Purdell Calhoun. A lifelong resident of the area, Ruth attended Fonda High School. On November 20, 1941 she was united in marriage to Harry F. Lais; the union lasted 50 years until his passing on November 18, 1991. Ruth was employed in the nursing service at St. Mary's Hospital for 15 years and also as a librarian for the Fort Hunter Free Library for 15 years. Ruth was a member of Fonda High School Alumni Society, Club 60 at St. Mary's Hospital, The North American Iroquois Seniors, Tribes Hill Sir William Johnson Seniors, The Inman Senior Center, Heritage Geological Society of Montgomery Count and a past member of Women of the Moose in Johnstown. Survivors include a son, James G. Lais (Lavaina DeMarco)of Tribes Hill; brother, James Calhoun (Patti) of Johnstown; sister, Fran Peddrick of Johnstown, granddaughters, Patricia Lais (Brenda Olsen) of Tribes Hill, Mindy Lais of Maryland and Tasha Lais of Rochester; great-granddaughter, Cory Lais of Tribes Hill.; step-grandson, Richard Kundson (Lia) of Tribes Hill. She was predeceased by her son, Richard Lais; brother, Albert Calhoun; sisters, Ella Clark and Marguerite Phillips; grandson, Michael Lais. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend; she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Rev. Kathy Reese presiding. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
