Ruth L. Lange

- Ruth L. Lange, 88, former resident of Phillips Street, Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at the Kingsway Arms where she has resided since October 7, 2009 Born December 3, 1924 in Owego, NY, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Minnie Rathke Lange. Ruth was a graduate of the Owego Free Academy Class of 1941 and she attended the Wilson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Johnson City, New York. She lived in Binghamton, NY until moving to Amsterdam in 1978. Ruth was employed by the New York Telephone which became NYNEX and later Verizon, she was a supervisor for 30 years until retiring in 1988. She was a devoted member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schenectady; former member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Owego and a member of the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Ruth enjoyed traveling for a number of years, loved to knit, sew and always enjoyed a good conversation on national politics. She especially enjoyed her sweets and was a connoisseur of chocolate. Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by three brothers, Freddy, Marvin and Herbert Lange, and two sisters, Barbara Shortino and Gladys Oliver. Funeral services will be held on Friday evening April 26, 2013 at 6:00 pm at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 35 Furman Street, Schenectady, NY with the Rev. Patrick Mohan Singh officiating. Family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5 to 6 pm at the church. On Saturday afternoon April 27, 2013 funeral services will take place at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego, NY at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Aaron Schian officiating. Family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 12 to 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Tioga Cemetery in Owego, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's memory to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schenectady, NY or to the Zion Lutheran Church in Owego, NY.
