Ruth Marie McGinnis, age 93, of Sun City Center, FL and East Brewster, MA passed away peacefully May 22, 2016. Born in Worcester, MA on June 6, 1922, Ruth was the daughter of the late John and Ellen Farady. With her sister, the late Noel Coakley, Ruth grew up on the hill on College Street in Worcester. She attended Garland Junior College and worked at several local businesses. Ruth married James E. McGinnis, an Army Air Corp Officer on June 8, 1943. After WWII, Jim and Ruth moved back to MA and had two children before Jim was recalled to active duty for the Korean War. Ruth faced the need to care for her family while her husband was overseas. She felt that every challenge she faced after that seemed small to her. Jim and Ruth raised their 6 children through several moves in MA and NJ. They had a cottage in East Brewster on Cape Cod that was the center of McGinnis family activities every summer. When they returned to Massachusetts, Ruth and Jim lived in Cohasset. Ruth sold real estate on the South Shore of Boston and volunteered at the South Shore Hospital Gift Shop for many years. They retired to Bradenton, FL in 1983. There she volunteered at Selby Gardens in Sarasota, FL and enjoyed many holidays with family, grandchildren and friends. Ruth was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Jim and Ruth were married for 62 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim and her sister, Noel and is survived by her six children: Anne McGinnis Breen (Dennis) of Oro Valley, AZ; Patricia Margaret McGinnis of Waltham, MA; James Edward McGinnis Jr. (Lynne) of Watkins Glen, NY; John Michael McGinnis of Chelmsford, MA; Margaret Tobin McGinnis of Quincy, MA; Marie Ellen McGinnis DePasquale (Salvatore) of Brookline, NH. She is survived by 5 grandchildren; Dennis Breen (Anita) of Chicago, IL; Jon Breen (Bruce) of London England, Patricia Breen (Ruth Bowman) of Phoenix, AZ; Scott Michael McGinnis of Corning, NY; Lauren Anne DePasquale of Manchester, NH. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren Naveen Joshua Breen and Kyle Breen Bowman and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date in July at Our Lady of the Cape, Brewster, MA. Ruth's guest book may be signed on-line at Sun City Center Funeral Home. www.suncitycenterfuneralhome.com/obituaries
