Ruth Anna Peters
March 31st, 1931 - May 19th, 2020
Ruth A. Peters, child of God and daughter of Frederick and Eleanora (Kendall) Bieber answered affirmatively the call of her savior and so left this earth. Her days numbered 89 years as of May 19, 2020, marked her death. Ruth was born March 31, 1931, in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan, Canada into a family of Germanic immigrants and as one of 8 children. She was a sharp, curious student, a fast runner, loved math, helped with the thrashing gang, and liked to ice skate and curl. Ruth attended nursing school at Regina General Hospital. She had four roommates who became lifelong friends, and all moved to Vancouver, British Columbia to work after graduation. Ruth met Fred Peters, a seminary intern, in Regina. They married June 6, 1955, after Fred graduated from seminary. During their marriage, she made a home, raised 4 children, worked as an RN, encouraged many with her birding and gardening knowledge, and showed hospitality to all--the Peters home had many visitors. Homesites included Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada; Malcolm, Iowa; Spirit Lake, Iowa; Braunschweig, Germany; Sioux City, Iowa; Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; Northfield, Minnesota; and Salem, Oregon. She made gardens in each place, knit for many, baked, and shared. Her doughnuts were a wonderful thing, and her kapusta was famous. She was a devoted friend, staying in touch across miles and time. Ruth leaves behind four sisters: Edith, Elaine, Doris, and Leona. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband of nearly 65 years, Fred Peters, along with her children: Patti Peters, Dave Peters (Jodie Petersen), Barb Peters (Dan Thompson), and Nancy Blazek (Tom Blazek). Beloved grandchildren are Becky and Aaron; Luke and Isak, along with their father Bob Walker; Katie, Maggie, and Josh. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Margaret and Katie, and brother Fred. Services will be planned at a later date. Memorials may be sent to: Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community, Keizer, OR Faith Lutheran Church, Keizer, OR Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Salem, OR Our deepest thanks for support go to Williamette Valley Hospice.
