Ruth M. Troup

Ruth Miller Troup, 102, of Kirkland, Washington, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2023 in Kirkland, Washington. Ruth was born on January 2, 1921 to Alden E. and Mabelle I. (Rockefeller) Miller in Troy, New York. She was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and Russell Sage College, where she majored in Business Education. She met her husband, George B. Troup of Williamsville, NY, while they were in college and he was attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, majoring in Metallurgical Engineering. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage, residing primarily in Amherst, NY and Oak Brook, IL. She taught high school business classes, including business management, shorthand, and Court Reporting. They raised two daughters, and eventually moved to the west coast, retiring in Kirkland in 1979. Ruth enjoyed many activities throughout her life, including golf, bridge, advanced square dancing, swimming, yoga, and tai chi. Her favorite travels during retirement included California and Hawaii. She was a lover of music and gatherings with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 2006. She is survived by her daughters Nancy (Robert Schwartz) of Los Altos, CA and Barbara (James) Phippard of Kirkland, WA; grandchildren Zachary (Megan), David (Christine), and Anne (Michael); and great-grandchildren Maya, Lila, Hollis, Rayleigh, Grace, and Carson. Private services and internment in Williamsville Cemetary, New York.
