S. Jean Kinkead
November 13th, 1940 - February 12th, 2018
S. Jean (Wiggins) Kinkead, age 77, passed away February 12, 2018 in Palmetto, Florida. Jean was born in Gilpin Township in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania on November 13, 1940 to William and Martha (Bothel) Wiggins. She was a 1958 graduate of Leechburg High School and a 1962 graduate of IUP, with a bachelor’s degree of science in education. Her post-graduate education was done at the University of Pittsburgh. Jean began her teaching career in elementary education at Churchill area schools and later in the Connellsville school district. Jean is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Harry Kinkead; children Mike Kinkead and Jim Kinkead (Suzanne), both of Charlotte, North Carolina; sister Liz Kearney (James, deceased); brothers Dave Wiggins (Toni) and Tom Wiggins (Becky); many nieces and nephews; and Uncle Ralph. Jean loved working with “the kids,” both in and out of the classroom. She was a volunteer for many community functions. At IUP she was a Zeta Tau Alpha and proud member of DAR. She was a devoted wife and mother. She and Harry retired to Ellenton, Florida in 2000. A celebration of Jean’s life was held in Bradenton, Florida, and another will be held at a later date in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jean’s name “for the kids” to Mecklenburg Community Church, 8335 Browne Rd., Charlotte, NC 28269.
