Sadie Mae Baker
June 11th, 1937 - October 10th, 2015
Sadie Mae Baker passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2015. She was born in Durham, NC on June 11, 1937. She worked for Atlantic Research, Pan Am, Computer Science Raytheon and Boeing. Upon retirement, Sadie was on the Board of Directors of the Hacienda Girls Ranch, the Florida Federation of Woman's Club, and past president of the Satellite Beach Woman's Club. One of her many major projects of the Woman's Club was Diapers for Darlings, the collection and donation of diapers for needy families. Sadie had a true sense of community spirit and involvement and was constantly searching for ways to better her beloved city. Sadie spent thousands of hours searching for family ancestors and has a vast collection of documents of her family. She also enjoyed researching and collecting antiques. Sadie traveled extensively while employed by Pan Am and has many friends throughout the world. Her favorite vacation spot for the past thirty four years was Aruba. Sadie and husband John were married on April Fool's Day in 1972. On the first of April each year since, each was given the opportunity to continue for another year. Because of their deep love for each other, there was never a negative response. Sadie is survived by John, daughter Sheryll Pence, sisters Corrine Norden and Joann O'Neal, grandson Michael Pence, stepchildren William, Sally, Casey and Theodore Baker and Caren Folger. She has nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She will be cremated, a portion of her ashes will be scattered on the waves of her beloved Aruba. The balance will be retained until the death of John when the ashes of both will be combined and buried in the Arlington National Cemetery. They will then be together forever. A memorial gathering will be held October 30th from five to six at the Beach Funeral Home, Indian Harbour Beach, FL. followed by a Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a reputable organization assisting Wounded Veterans or the Children's Home Society of Florida, 1485 South Semoran Blvd. #1448, Winter Park, FL 32792.
