Sadie M Herrera

Sadie M. Herrera, born December 13, 1930, in Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, surrounded by her loving family and her brother, Porfie Martinez Jr. She was preceded in death by parents, Porfirio and Eva Martinez; and her son, Donald, which left her heartbroken but hopeful that she would see them again. Sadie is survived by her teenage sweetheart and husband of 59 ½ years, Jose Dino; and daughters, Bonnie Mora and husband Gerard, Anna Herrera-Shawver and husband Greg, Margaret Herrera Versaw and husband Doug; son, Raul Richard and wife Dawn Shelly; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She had many extended family members, neighbors and friends that she faithfully visited for many years. Sadie began her career as a seamstress and passionately sewed beautiful clothes for her husband, children and anyone who would ask her. Her greatest achievement was making her house a home and her yard a beautiful garden sanctuary. Sadie also loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply. She accepted everyone and judged no one. As a result, these people became a part of her life and adopted her as mother and grandmother. Her door was always open to everyone that called on her. Sadie was an active member of the Manzano Mesa Red Hat Sisters for eight years and dubbed herself, Party Animal. She was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a few years before her death which was the only thing that slowed her down. Sadie had a simple and profoundly deep faith in God and her Savior Jesus, which allowed her to move through virtually any of life's challenges with grace. According to her nurse Barbara Collins of Heritage Hospice, she had the heart of a champ. The family would like to thank Heritage Hospice, especially aide Jessica Perez for the tender care she gave our mother. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Holiday Park Community Center, located at 11710 Comanche Road NE, Albuquerque, NM.
