Sammy Butler
February 19th, 1948 - December 18th, 2021
Sam Butler, 73, beloved husband of 54 years to Lorraine Butler went peacefully to be with the Lord Saturday December 18, 2021 at the VA Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born on February 19, 1948 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late Julia and William Butler, he was the second of nine children. He was a Kentucky Colonel and proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. Sam and Lorraine were members of Tates Creek Christian Church. Over the years he took pride in providing for his family, even if it required working two jobs at a time. He retired from OHI Manufacturing as a maintenance mechanic in 2009. He enjoyed watching football, taking road trips and cruises, and anything to do with being outdoors, like hiking, camping and hunting. One of his fondest memories was having the honor of baptizing his grandson, Zachary. In addition to the love of his life Lorraine, he is survived by his three adored children, Kimberly (Samuel) Shuler, Mike Butler and Kevin (Jenny) Butler. Other survivors include his four grandchildren, Kayla Shuler, Andrew Shuler, Zachary Butler and his namesake, Sam Butler; his great grandchildren, Sally Shuler and Julia Shuler, and numerous nieces and nephews. His family will always remember him for his strength and kind heart. Visitation will be from 9:30am until the Memorial Service on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 10:30AM at Clark Legacy Center, Nicholasville with Reverend Bruce Carpenter officiating. A Gathering of Family and Friends will follow until 1:30PM. A military burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 2:30PM. The family would like to thank the staff at the VA Hospitals of Lexington for their continuous care and compassion to our loved one over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VA Hospitals of Lexington.
