Sandra Fligel Hirsch

Sandra Fligel Hirsch finally lost her courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma on May 23, 2014. She was born on November 12, 1948 in Charlotte, NC to the late Sol and Doris Fligel and after living in various locations she and her husband David settled in Charlotte where they both grew up and first met. She embraced her Jewish heritage and with her family were long time members of Temple Israel. Sandra had a dynamic personality and charmed everyone she was around. She developed many lifelong friendships everywhere she lived. When she found out there was not a support group dedicated to Multiple Myeloma patients she and David started one which has now grown to over 80 members. Helping others was always one of her main goals and she considered this support group her major accomplishment. Sandra is survived by her husband, David Hirsch, their daughter, Adriane Hirsch, and their son, Scott Hirsch, his wife Dori, and their two sons, Ryan and Evan. In addition she has two loving brothers, Robert Fligel and David Fligel both of New York. The family would like to thank Dr. Cristina Gasparetto of Duke, Dr. Sridhar Pal of Charlotte, and especially Dr. Saad Usmani of the Levine Cancer Institute of Charlotte for all their efforts helping Sandra fight this cancer.
