Sandra ""Sandi"" Jean Schulz

Sandra “Sandi” Jean Schulz, 76, of Greeley, Colorado passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at her home. She was born February 19, 1948 to Glen and Dorthea (Ward) McKinsey in New Castle, Indiana.  In 1951 the family moved to Rye, Colorado where Sandi grew up. She graduated from Rye High School in 1965.  She received her Associate Degree in early childhood development from Southern Colorado State College (now Colorado State University Pueblo) as well as an Associate Degree in business from Otero Junior College in La Junta, CO.  She worked as the Director of a day care center in Pueblo, and later at the Otero County Department of Social Services.

Sandi married Darryl Schulz on December 23,1967, in Rye, Colorado.  The family moved to Rocky Ford, CO in 1977 where she was a full-time mom to Stephanie and Jason Schulz.  Sandi was an active member of Rocky Ford and the Arkansas Valley community, volunteering for various causes throughout her time living there. She was devoted to Darryl and always provided him invaluable support and partnership throughout his career.  In 2011, Darryl and Sandi moved to Greeley, CO to enjoy retirement and to be closer to family. 

Sandi loved children, animals, music, dancing, singing, and connecting with family and friends. She was active in her church, and enjoyed taking pictures, bowling and golf.  Sandi was a strong woman with an adventurous spirit, a quirky sense of humor, and a big heart.  Family was her priority, especially her husband, kids, and grandchildren, and she loved creating special moments with them.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, the love of her life, Darryl Schulz of Greeley, CO; her children Stephanie McCune and partner Keith Gardner of Greeley, CO; Jason Schulz and wife Krystal of Denver, CO; her grandchildren Brendan McCune and Kinsey McCune of Greeley, CO; her brothers Tony McKinsey of Pueblo, CO; David McKinsey and wife Sara of Pueblo, CO; Steve McKinsey and wife Karolyn of Pueblo, CO; and her sister-in-law Sharon McKinsey of Canon City, CO.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Mike McKinsey and sister-in-law Judy McKinsey.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 11:00a.m. - 3:00p.m.  To celebrate Sandi's life, there will be an informal open-house and potluck reception at the Home United Methodist Church's fellowship hall in Rye, CO.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “American Cancer Society” or checks made to ACS and mailed in care of Adamson Life Celebration Home, 2000 W. 47th Ave., Greeley, CO  80634.
