Sara Sue McComb Conway passed away Tuesday, January 14th in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. A native of Charleston, SC, of Anderson-Silcox lineage, Ms. Conway spent her childhood summers at Sullivan’s Island and visited her grandmother’s house in the heart of Charleston often while growing up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. An honors graduate of Louisiana State University, Ms. Conway also earned her M.B.A from Kennesaw State College. A gifted speaker and storyteller, she was an award-winning Toastmaster. Ms. Conway’s children will always remember their mother as incredibly creative and artistic; an organizer and volunteer. Among her many accomplishments: she started a children’s community theater, started a Girl Scout troop and a junior women’s club, helped lead a youth ministry and filled her children’s lives with arts and crafts and elaborate handcrafted birthday cakes. After concluding her professional career in Human Resources, she retired to Summerville where she enjoyed gardening, jewelry-making, painting and puzzling. She is survived by her sister, Martha McGough; her daughter, Karen; son-in-law, Jeff Elder; son, Kyle; daughter-in-law, Randi; two granddaughters, Kathryn and Caroline; and her beloved dog, Buddy.
