Sara Mayo
August 26th, 1936 - April 7th, 2022
Sara Mayo, age 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 7, 2022. A celebration of her life will be held at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home on April 9, 2022 at 2:00pm with Reverend Tim Millwood officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home on April 9, 2022 between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Interment is scheduled for Monday, April 11, 2:00pm in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Marengo County, Alabama where she will be laid to rest next to her husband of sixty-six years, George Edwin Mayo. Sara was born August 26, 1936 in Nanafalia, Alabama to the late Quintus and Emma Bates. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. Sara served as her church's Social Director for several years. In her spare time, she taught ceramics at the Warner Robins Recreation Center and Sara enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She was involved in many various ministries including the Christian Social Ministries (CSM) and Sara made hats for cancer patients and dresses for the Rehoboth Baptist Association Appalachian Ministries. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and she will be missed by everyone who knew her. In addition to her parents and husband, Sara is preceded in death by her grandson, David Walden. Sara is survived by her children, Sheryl Walden (Tim) of Warner Robins, Deborah Canady (Marty) of Dublin, and Robert Mayo (Julie) of Bonaire; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a host of extended friends and family.
