Sarah Laughridge Summerlin "Mutt" Sarah L. Summerlin, 87, of Charlotte, NC went home to be with the Lord on February 5, 2014. "Mutt" as she was known by her friends, was born in Charlotte, NC on September 30, 1926, daughter of the late Lawrence Celvester Laughridge and Claudia Cloninger Laughridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, a son, Kenneth W. Summerlin and a daughter, Jane S. Jaynes. Mrs. Summerlin was an active member of Thrift United Methodist Church all her life. She worked as an accounts payable clerk for the A&P Tea Company and for Harris Teeter before her retirement. She was also an avid Duke basketball and Atlanta Braves fan. Mrs. Summerlin is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Taylor and her husband, Charlie of Mint Hill, NC; daughter-in-law, Harriett Summerlin; six grandchildren, Christy Hunter and her husband, Buddy, Ashleigh Fritz and her husband, Todd, Kimberly Reece and her husband, Jason, Bryan Lemons, Jeremy Taylor and his wife, Mariann, and Wade Summerlin; ten great-grandchildren, Bryan, Kamryn and Kaila Hunter, Timathy Purcell, Joshua Fritz, Ryleigh and Taylor Lemons, Haylee Taylor, and Harleigh and Hudson Reece; sister, Pauline Gresham and her daughter, Rita McIntyre; nephew, Eddie Summerlin and his wife, Grace; dear friends, Dorothy Lybrand and Jane Smith and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Summerlin will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, with Pastor Mel Burton officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Thrift United Methodist Church, PO Box 205, Paw Creek, NC 28130.
