Scott Brian Shaffer

Scott Brian Shaffer August 10, 1961 - September 2, 2023 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our father, brother, son, uncle and friend. Scott Brian Shaffer passed away in the early morning of Saturday, September 2 at the age of 62, after a brave battle against a relentless form of brain cancer over the past year. Scott was always the life of the party, quick with a joke and a loyal friend. Preceding him in death was his father, Donald Shaffer, mother, LaWanda and his beloved aunt, Bonnie Zerbe. Surviving family members include his daughter, Rachel Hensel and her husband Austin; son, Kyle Shaffer; his sister, Brenda Shaffer and her wife Lynda; his brother Tim Shaffer and his wife Dana, nephew Mitchell Shaffer (wife Allison) and niece Morgan Shaffer. Scott was born in Erie, PA in the summer of 1961. Scott had a wonderful childhood there and graduated in 1979 from Strong Vincent High School. After graduating Penn State/Edinboro University, he married his now ex-wife, Peggy Shaffer in 1986. They moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana for 6 years and eventually settled in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. Scott was a loyal employee of GTE/Verizon Data Services for 33 years, retiring just 5 years ago. He enjoyed golf and shared many weekends on the golf course with very good friends. Scott loved a good get-together for NFL games, NCAA football and basketball, as well as hosting Fantasy Football gatherings. He also loved having friends over for a pool party and lots of Vallarta’s margaritas, quesadillas and Yuengling. After retiring, Scott bought a house on Lake Panasoffkee and planned a life of boating, fishing, and road-tripping across the USA in an RV. Scott leaves behind his children, of whom he is immensely proud, as well as friends and an extended family he cherished. He will be missed for his smile, generosity, ability to make others laugh and outgoing personality.
