Serafino "Sary" Marsicano
January 1st, 1934 - June 16th, 2017
Serafino "Sary" L. Marsicano, 83, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 1, 1934 in Amsterdam, he was the son of the late Gennaro and Concetta Tambasco Marsicano. A lifelong resident of the area, Sary graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1951. On May 20, 1956, he united in marriage to Betty A. Samolis Marsicano at St. Casimir Church; it was a loving union that lasted 45 years until her passing in 2002. Together, Sary and Betty owned and operated Mohawk Valley Leasing of Amsterdam for over 50 years. His loving family includes his sons, Serafino G. Marsicano (Jackie) and Gary J. Marsicano (Jill); his daughter, Gloria Kaczmarek (Joseph); grandchildren, Kevin Marsicano (Tamera), Michael Marsicano (Leah), Anthony Marsicano, Olivia Marsicano, Dr. Joseph Kaczmarek, Thomas Kaczmarek and Kristie Kaczmarek; brother and sister in law, Anthony and Cecilia Samolis. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Besides his parents, Sary is predeceased by his infant son, Michael John Marsicano and his sister, Sr. Francis Clare Marsicano. A special thank you to Sary's doctors, Dr. Stevens, Dr. Shahata and Dr. Madiraju for their care and compassion over the past few years. Calling hours for Sary to which relatives and friends may attend will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 4pm until 7pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 39 Saint John St. Amsterdam at 11:15am. Burial will follow Mass at St. Casimir Cemetery, where Sary will be laid to rest next to his wife, Betty. Memorial donations in Sary's name can be made to Bernard & Millie Dukar Children's Hospital, c/o, Albany Medical Center, 43 New Scotland Ave, Albany, NY, 12208 or to the Town of Florida Vol. Fire Dept. 6252 St. Hwy. 30, Amsterdam, NY, 12010.
