SGT. Sean Phillip Christiansen
June 3rd, 1987 - October 4th, 2014
SGT Sean Phillip Christiansen, 27, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014 in Killeen, Texas. Sean was born in Salem, Oregon to Doug Christiansen and Missy McColloch. Sean attended St. Joseph School in Salem, where his deceased grandmother, MaryLou McColloch worked. He moved with his father to Tigard and graduated from St. Anthony School in Tigard in 2001. Sean attended LaSalle High School in Milwaukie. Sean met his best friend, Susan Salinas, in Hinesville, GA in 2011 and they were married in March of 2012. Together they worked on their house, enjoyed spending time with friends and family and looked after the five dogs and one cat that they adopted. SGT Sean Phillip Christiansen entered active-duty service in May 2008 as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. He joined the 8th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, at Ft. Hood, TX, in September 2014. Sean deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn in Iraq from December 2009 to December 2010. He was previously stationed in Ft. Stewart, GA and attended EOD school at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, FL. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, two Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, and Driver and Mechanic Badge. He is survived by his wife, Susan Christiansen; mother and stepfather, Missy McColloch and Paul Zakaras of Sheridan; father and stepmother, Doug and Marita Christiansen of Tigard; grandparents, Art and LaVeta Christiansen of Stayton, Ed O’Meara (Louise) of Whidbey Island, WA; brothers, Cameron Zakaras of Sheridan, Corey Petersen (Sadie) of Beaverton, and Andrew Petersen of Happy Valley; nieces Olivia and Maya Petersen of Beaverton and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him greatly. The Funeral Mass is scheduled on Friday, October 17 at 11:30 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church - Tigard. Fr. Bob Erickson, SJ (cousin of Marita) will preside, and, St. Anthony’s pastor Fr. John Henderson will concelebrate. Following the Mass, the casket burial with full military honors will be held at St. Anthony Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the internment at St. Anthony - Tigard Parish Center at approx. 1:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, the Christiansen family suggests donations to the Oregon Humane Society.
