Sharon Stephens Read

Sharon Stephens Read, age 77, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on April 15, 2022. Sharon grew up in Chadbourn, NC. She played basketball for Chadbourn High School and was selected for the "All Columbus County Team." Additionally, she was a majorette in the marching band, and was recognized for Science and Citizenship. She was selected from several candidates to be the 1960 "Strawberry Princess" in the annual Strawberry Festival, in Chadbourn. Sharon later married Daniel Edwin (Ed) Read Jr. on August 16, 1964, and graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelors in Education in 1966. Sharon worked as a teacher, resume writing consultant, administrative assistant and held several other jobs over the years. Her overarching job and passion, however, was raising her sons and managing the family home in Charlotte, NC. She was an active tennis player and served as captain on a local club team. Sharon attended church regularly until illness stopped her. She continued to practice her faith and stayed in touch with her Sunday School class. Sharon is survived by her husband Ed Read, sons Lance Read (Amy) of Charlotte, NC, and Daniel Read of Raleigh, NC, grandsons Colin Read of Atlanta, GA, and Alex Read of Charlotte, NC, brother Ronald Stephens (Priscilla) of Locust, NC, sister Marta Miller (Randy) of Buford, GA, and many nieces and nephews. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Edna Stephens and brothers Oleun Stephens and Ricky Stephens. A visitation will be held at 3:00pm on April 23, 2022 at J.B.
