Mrs. Sharon C. Van Nostrand, age 71, of Gloversville, New York, died on Monday, May 1, 2023 after a long illness at her home in Gloversville with her loved ones by her side. She was born on April 30, 1952 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late William H.T and Britomarte H. [Hayes] Pettit. She enjoyed watching NASCAR [Rusty Wallace], Football [49er’s], Baseball [Yankees], Wrestling George “The Animal” Steele, Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Video Games [Monopoly], Board Games, Puzzles, and any card game you can think of. She enjoyed sitting on her side porch watching her flowers grow and listening to the birds chirp and fly around. [Many Cardinals] Sharon is survived by her son; Melvin R. Van Nostrand Jr. [Debbie], Daugther; Melonie Case [Jack], Daugther; Charmaine Steenburg [Fred], Son; John Van Nostrand [Carly] Grandchildren; Michael Van Nostrand [Jenee], Skosha Van Nostrand, Aelicia Gilston [Jeremy], Shayne Collins [Nicole], Matthew Steenburg, Katarina Steenburg [Joe], Justin Van Nostrand, Melina Van Nostrand and Great Grandchildren Jaelyn, Beckham, Brodi, Messiah, and Jeremiah. Siblings, Brothers; Bill Pettit [Nancy], Peter Pettit [Carrie], Joseph Pettit [Linda], Jacque Pettit, Sisters; Patricia Pettit-Dymes [Tom], Ellen Lair [Rick]; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents Sharon is predeceased by her Brothers; Michael Pettit, Samuel Pettit, Sisters; Hope Cregils and Katherine S. Ryle. In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A celebration of life will be held May 7th from 2-5 pm at the Johnstown Moose 109 S. Comrie Ave, Johnstown NY 12095. A special “Thank You” goes out to her home care staff, Jessica Rose Pettit, Jenee Shaw, Grace Kuehling and Nick Pettit. Without your love and support none of this would have been possible. The family would like to thank Katie at Mountain Valley Hospice for her outstanding level of care and friendship she provided for the last several months to not just Sharon, but to the entire family and staff. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution in Sharon’s memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078 would be her choice. The staff of Walrath & Stewart Funeral home is honored to be assisting Sharon's family at this time.
