Sheila M. Lacasse

Sheila May Lacasse (Nocrasz) passed away unexpectedly but quietly in her sleep on January 2, 2023. Sheila was born in Ludlow, MA in September 1940, daughter of the late Peter and Mary Nocrasz, grew up in Granby, and graduated from South Hadley High School. She married the love of her life, Maurice N. Lacasse, on July 4, 1959. They lived for a short period of time in Holyoke and then moved to South Hadley where they spent the rest of their years together. When Sheila was young, she worked at Clark Department Store in Holyoke. After marrying Maurice, Sheila became office manager for the family business, Lacasse Heating and Cooling in Holyoke, MA. Later in life, Sheila worked for quite a few years at Walmart Pharmacy in Chicopee, MA, retiring in 2018. She was loved by whoever she met and had the opportunity to spend time with her. Her smile was contagious. Sheila was a dedicated wife, loved her family deeply, and would enjoy seeing everyone at gatherings. She loved to travel with Maurice and other family members and friends. She enjoyed to sew and in particular loved to make beautiful quilted fabric postcards that she shared with others. Later in life she enjoyed participating in a group that exchanged paper postcards called Postcrossing. She received postcards from all across the world. Sheila is survived by her husband of 63 years, Maurice N. Lacasse, of South Hadley. Sheila was the beloved mother of Maurice Lacasse Jr and his wife Laurie, Deborah Lacasse, Norman Lacasse, and Kenneth Lacasse and his wife Ulla. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Jennifer Otero and husband Dan, Sarah Leary, Jason Leary, Joshua Lacasse, Kristina Lacasse, and Thomas Lacasse. Sheila also leaves 3 great-grandchildren; Henryk, Griffin, and Starla. Sheila is survived by one sister, Beverly Van Zandt, sister-in-law Lorraine Coty, sister-in-law Geneva Lacasse, and many cousins and nephews. Family and friends can gather at Beers and Story Funeral Home of South Hadley at 12:00 on February 9th to join a procession to St. Patrick’s Church in South Hadley. Mass will be at 12:30 at St. Patrick’s Church in South Hadley. There will then be a procession to the Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sheila’s memory may be made to support the American Diabetes Association.
