Shelby Jean Babb, 76, peacefully departed this life to join her Heavenly Father on February 6th, 2016 at Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness. Shelby was born to Melvin and Eva Parks in Scott County, on March 20, 1939. She was a lifelong resident of Nickelsville, Virginia but has lived in Hiltons, Virginia with her daughter and son-in-law for the past four years. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, attending church, playing games and spending time with her large family. Shelby also served as a volunteer EMT with the Nickelsville Rescue Squad for a number of years. As a woman of strong Christian faith, she was an active member of Rockview Baptist Church, Hiltons Missionary Baptist Church, and Lawson Memorial Church. She showed immense love and kindness to everyone who met her. Shelby was a constant example of Christ's commandment to love others, and consistently put the needs of others before her own. In addition to her parents, Shelby is preceded in death by her loving husband, Tony, to whom she was married for 52 years; her son, Lowell; grandson, Kevin; brothers, Buford and J.C. Parks; sister, Stella Cassell; father and mother-in law, Ken and Gladys Babb; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rodney (Lois) Babb and Junior (Phyllis) Babb; sister-in-law, Jean Dean; and great-nephew, Tristen. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dale Sanders; grandsons, Matthew Babb and Justin D. Sanders; granddaughter, Sarah (Adam) Garland; great-grandson, A.J. Garland; brother, Dougie (Sue) Parks; sister, Marsie (Mack) Daugherty; brothers-in-law, Paul (Kathy) Babb, Ronnie (Linda) Babb, and Jim Dean; sisters-in-law, Faye (Richard) Anderson, Judy Miller, and Teresa (Carl) Tipton; dozens of nieces and nephews; and a large group of friends and church family. The family will receive friends from 4:30pm to 7pm Thursday, February 11th, 2016 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, or anytime at the home of Dale and Donna Sanders. Funeral services will follow, with Mack Daugherty officiating. Music will be provided by Herb Mills and Wanda Dougherty. Graveside services will take place on Friday, February 12th, 2016 at 11am at the Parks Family Cemetery in Big Moccasin. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Shelby's granddaughter and nieces will serve as honorary pallbearers. Those who plan to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10am to follow in procession. The family would like to thank the caring and dedicated staff at Karing Hearts Cardiology, Nova Health and Rehab, Indian Path Medical Center, and the staff of the ICU at Johnson City Medical Center for all they did to care for Shelby during her illness.
