I was so sorry to hear of Claudia’s passing. We kept hoping that we could get together and talk about the good old days… Sorry that never happened. Will miss you Claudia. Still have the memories.

I was one of her many good friends and whenever i meet her, she spoke to me warmly. I specially remember the one time we had lunch together. Condolences to Betty, Christopher, Courtenay and Cynthia. Should have wrote my condolences sooner.

Will never forget sailing out to Catalina Island, Tim, You, my husband at that time, Gary & Karen. Also going out to eat. It was a good time. You will be missed. You were to young to go.

So sorry to read about Claudia’s death. My brother Bill Murray was a close friend of hers in Laguna Beach and in Colorado. We always enjoyed the time spent with Claudia and Tim. I just shared this news with Bill and he is grieving.

I Knew Claudia From Her Days in Laguna Bch, Calif, In The Late 70’s, And Hung out together Even attending Her Father’s Palamony Trail against Michele Wearing A FREE LEE T-SHIRT, Till I Returned to NJ to Help my Father who was Fighting Cancer Himself, She Surprised Me in the Mid 80’s With a few Phone calls from Colorado, Then Nothing, I search FB every Now & Then With No Results, Found out about Her Death on last search a few Months Back, She was A Wonderful Woman, Sad to Find out She Passed, I found myself searching again This Morning for the reason ? I Miss and Thought of You Often and Wish I Was a Better Friend to You Claudia in our Days together. I Always Hoped to Hear Wonderful Things that was happening in your Life, In Your Phone Calls, Not Just health issue. Which I Guess was The Reason for your passing. May We Meet Again Someday , XOXO

This is not how I hoped to finally find Claudia. I’ve searched online here and there over the years and never could track her down. Claudia and I hung out in the late 70’s in Laguna Beach. We got close over drinks, pool and darts at a local bar on Coast Hwy, down the street from The White House restaurant. The two of us ended
up on a hitch-hiking adventure to see some waterfalls up north. We had a good friendship that was interrupted when I needed to go back to IL for family reasons. By the time I came back west, I didn’t know how to find her. I’ve thought of her over the years and wish we could have met up again. A wonderful, generous spirit that will be missed.

I am hearing just now about Claudia’s passing and though it has been so, so many years since I last saw her, she was a significant fixture in my child hood and my heart squeezes upon hearing this news. I was thinking about Claudia and googled her only to see this obituary. What I remember most about Claudia, and have often though of throughout the years, was a bad (horrible, actually) time in my life in Golden, Colorado when I had no friends left. The only one who extended a hand and a smile during that time was Claudia. I will never forget that, nor her wonderful smile and outgoing personality. Rest in peace, Claudia.

I have such warm fun memories of Claudia in Rome and that summer in Ansedonia. I grieve to hear she had passed. Condolences and hugs from across the years to Betty, Christopher, Courtenay and Cynthia

It is difficult for me to accept the fact that Jim has passed.  I had sent him “Happy Birthday” wishes shortly after his 81st birthday and got an email from him on April 25th thanking me.  Since Jim and I have known one another since our junior year in high school, I had asked in the birthday email “Where have the years gone?”  Jim answered “Where did all the time go?  It all passed one day at a time and I enjoyed every one of them.”  What better epitaph could one have on one’s life than is reflected in that statement.

Jim and I met when our fathers, who worked for Chrysler (or a Chrysler subsidiary) in Indiana, moved to the St. Louis Missouri area, where Chrysler built a state-of-the-art facility for manufacturing cars.  Jim and I shared a love for chemistry, various outdoor activities, and camping.  We did chemistry experiments together, one of which blew up in our faces; skated on Creve Coeur Lake, where Jim’s family lived, in the winter; drove around in his family’s Renault, which always had something wrong with it; and went camping together, some with expected results (a drop in temperature that left the cold stream beside our tent was “steaming”).  He was a true friend and, although we lost touch somewhat when he joined the Air Force and I was busy with my career, we were never disconnected.

Although Jim clearly loved chemistry and eventually attended the same university that I did and got a degree in chemistry (he was delayed because he took a job at a paint company right after high school), I should have realized that this was not his calling.  When we were in high school, Jim would often say, “Let’s go to Lambert Field and watch the planes land and take off” (I think there may have been Air Force jets landing there at that time).  Eventually, he decided to pursue his dream and became an Air Force pilot and, eventually, a commercial pilot.  During this period, he would often regale me with stories of flight mishaps (not his) that had recently occurred.  Flying in those days was risky, especially in state-of-the-art military jets.  But, he loved flying.

There is another part to this story.  Patty (yes, I still think of her as Patty) is my first cousin.  In fact, her father, as well as all of my uncles on the Colvin side of the family, worked for Chrysler in Evansville, Indiana and moved to Missouri together.  Patty and I grew up in the small town in southern Indiana that our grandparents and much of the rest of our family lived in: Francisco, Indiana.  We lived in this town of 724 people until our sophomore year in high school, when we moved to Missouri.  Patty is only a month older than me, so we were in the same grade and did many things together, including playing badminton with our friends in the large grassy area behind her house and attending many family holiday gatherings.  When I read Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in high school, I realized that our childhoods were not so different than his (a far cry from childhood today).  I do deserve credit for introducing Patty to Jim — not that I really introduced them, rather she met Jim because he and I were often together.  Jim was devoted to Patty and in that last email he was thinking of her well-being and hoping for more years together.

In my reply to Jim’s email on the 25th, I wrote “If you and Pat would like a change in scenery, we would love to have you visit” (we live in the Pacific Northwest).  It never crossed my mind that there would not be enough time for that visit.

Very well written obituary.  My favorite memory was when Ron and I were putting an engine in a car at mom and dads.  Jim came to talk to dad, went back changed clothes and started helping us.  Must have been that helpful Hoosier blood.                        I think his mom was Dad's cousin.

John always was telling a joke,  playing a joke or being the life of the party.  You never left a room with John in it without a smile on your face. He was kindhearted and touched so many lives.  A kid at heart.

John is reunited now with Mom,  Dad,  Gran & PA. A loving son and grandson

John loved his furbabies. Cats in later years,  dogs in earlier years.  Animals always were important in his life. 

John Kearns ... Sup Sis is something that he would always say to me. My mind is trying to wrap around what has transpired.  You were such a presence in my life.  You danced with me at my wedding filling the void of not having a father/daughter dance.  We instead had a brother sister dance where I chose the song "lean on me". I knew I could always lean on you and you'd be there for me.  You'd say "don't worry,  I got you".
Your brother in law Matt Talbot and you always cracking the jokes, sometimes leaving me gobsmacked at your silliness when you got together. You leave behind two nephews,  Thomas and Danny and a niece Laura who loved their Uncle beyond measure, and they know just how proud you are of them. 
Honestly I'm struggling. You were looking forward to having a new lease on life with the surgery. Being here in Florida and having the time we spent before surgery was such a blessing. I'm thankful I got to see you one last time. The surgical team tried for 15 hours to keep you earth side. In the end the cards weren't in our favor.  You went peacefully, for that I'm grateful. I'm here helping Justine Decker Kearns just as you would want. It's so incredibly hard but we have each other.  
My message to you brother:
John,  
I always looked up to you. 
I always could count on you. 
I always knew you had my back.
I always knew that you were here for me. 
It saddens me and breaks my heart to know that you're no longer here. This wasn't supposed to be this way. 
I love you brother and I appreciated every minute we had growing up and all the time we had together. 
Please give Mom,  Dad,  Gran and Pa a big hug for me.   Say hello to all of the furbabies.

Great times that will be very happily remembered! 


With a very heavy heart, I have lost my dearest lifelong friend! We have had the best of times and the worst of times together but we always had each other and for that I am truly grateful. We used to always say how we were partners in crime and were always there for each other. I am truly blessed to have had a friend like this that was actually much more than that. He was a brother! So many great memories from kindergarten to now. 
John and I both were extensions of his family and mine and loved having that connection throughout life. There are so many things I can say or remember but that would simply take volumes to cover!
There isn't really any words that describe the depth of the loss of him passing for myself and all of us who knew him well. Just simply that we will MISS him a LOT! I am glad he didn't suffer and is in heaven with his family and mine. Love you sooooooo much my brother! See you in the future! God Bless!
