Sheridan Winfield 'Sherry' Hale. Resident of Walnut Creek Nov. 05, 1921Feb. 02, 2015 Sheridan was born in Piedmont, California to Winfield and Idolene Hale. He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 of his siblings. He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Hale, his daughter, Clarissa Hale, his sons Norman and Ken and 6 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Marinita McFadden and Pamela Elkins. Family history was important to Sheridan. His family came to California about 1850. His maternal grandfather, Charles A. Hooper was involved in redwood lumber, shipping and industry in early California (Pittsburg, San Francisco and Eureka) and owned the Rancho Los Medanos at Pittsburg. Sheridan donated all the historical Hooper papers to the Bancroft Library of the University of California. Sheridan was a licensed aviation mechanic and worked for Pan Am airways during WWII and then worked for private aviation repair after the war. He was a private pilot for over 50 years and flew regularly until he was 90 years old. Sheridan took pride in his excellent stewardship of his land at Seven Hills Ranch Road in Walnut Creek. He loved animals and particularly cats. He loved books and local history. He shared his wonderful mechanical skills with the young people in the area around Seven Hills Ranch and taught them how they could repair all their own vehicles. He was definitely a colorful character and the local area will miss Sherry Hale driving his vintage Volkswagen Beetle around the town and the stories of the old days he would tell. In respect of his wishes, there will be no service. He will be buried in the St. Helena Public Cemetery next to his brother, Tileston. Any donations can be made to a cat rescue organizations, no-kill shelters or Hospice of the East Bay. Express condolences at oakparkhillschapel.com.
