Sherry Rae Gruwell

May 17, 1938 - August 13, 2021 After a brief illness, Sherry Gruwell, age 83, passed away at home on August 13, 2021. Sherry was born May 17, 1938 in Salinas to the Welsh family. She grew up in San Francisco and moved to Pacific Grove where she graduated from Pacific Grove High School. It was later when she moved back to San Francisco that she reunited with her high school sweetheart Jim Gruwell. Sherry and Jim were married for 53 years until his passing in August of 2020. Sherry worked a few jobs, including bookkeeper for her husband's sheet metal business, but spent most of her time with her beloved family and pets. Sherry enjoyed painting, crafting, swimming and frequently won Seaside's yearly holiday home decoration competitions. She was also well known on the Monterey County Rocks Facebook group, due to her love for hiding hand painted rocks around the Monterey Peninsula. What Sherry was most well known for was her endless positivity and ability to bring together her family and friends. Sadly Sherry's son Jimmy preceded her in death. However, she is survived by several loving family members, including her daughters Susan (Jeff) Vordermark, Judy (Steve) Azevedo, Laura (Steve) Urquidi, her sisters Jo Ann Bennett, Lynn Hayes, her grandchildren Lacey, AJ, Danika, Adam, Kaley, Seth, Johnnie and her very cute great-granddaughter, Illya. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. Due to the ongoing coronavirus, a memorial service will be held at a later time.
