Sherry Lynn Schmidt
June 4th, 1970 - June 8th, 2016
Sherry Lynn (Curtis) Schmidt, 46, of Puyallup, Washington passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born in Troy, Ohio on June 4, 1970. Sherry is survived by her husband, Kurt Schmidt and three children Curtis, Crystal, and Cebra of Puyallup, Washington, her father Jerry Curtis and step-mother Karen (Anderson) Curtis both of Tacoma, Washington. She also has two brothers, Chris Curtis of Troy, Ohio, Robert (Cheryl) Curtis of Medway, Ohio, and four step-siblings, Chuck Parks of Burnside, KY, Jon Parks of Lynnwood, WA, Robert Parks of Port Richie, FL, and Kari Parks of Tacoma, WA. Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Helen (Deaton) Curtis. She attended Troy City Schools, until her family moved to Washington at age 14, where she signed up for Wood Shop in order to meet a boy which ended up being Kurt Schmidt. Sherry would ultimately end up dating Kurt in High School and graduated from Curtis High School in University Place, WA. Sherry and Kurt were married in 1991 and soon after started a family to which she had a fierce devotion to and would do anything for including foregoing any type of career outside the house so she could continue raising and guiding the children to become the best possible thoughtful and kind citizens that they have become. Sherry spent a great deal of time volunteering at her childrens schools and was a PTA member so that she may champion for all children and what was best for them. Along with PTA, Sherry was active in Girl Scouts with both of her Daughters and was a driving force behind her Son and his Boy Scouting and ultimately him earning his Eagle Scout rank. She loved photography and was very good at it, winning awards for some of her photos at the local and county levels. She and Kurt are active members of the Waller Road Grange at which Sherry would spend days working on award winning displays and Washington State Fair, overseeing the Woodrow Elementary Pioneer School program or assisting with the Green Thumb Garden for the local 2nd and 3rd Grade students. Even as the kids grew up and were starting their own lives, Sherry was there to encourage and admire the kids and wouldnt miss a choir concert or a play or any other activity that they wanted her to be at and you could almost guarantee that she was the first in line with cameras in hand to get her favorite spot to capture the moment of the children that was so proud of. Sherry was also a member of The Coastal Cruisers Chapter of the Brothers of the Third Wheel where she would enjoy numerous rides with her Husband and Parents, and yes, she would have her camera ready to catch that perfect shot. In October of 2014 the worst fear came true and the word Cancer had a new meaning for her but it didnt slow her down. She continued to do what she did best, be involved with her family and no matter how she felt or what the current symptoms were, Sherry was doing for others until she could physically do no more. She was fighting to beat cancer till the end when she passed away at home with her family where she loved to be.
