Shi Myung Yu June 20, 1942 – March 17, 2023 Shi Myung Yu, 80, passed away on March 17, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Kyuwon as well as his children, Elizabeth and Young (daughter-in-law Susan) and three grandchildren, Emily, Jake and Luke. Shi was born on July 20, 1942 in the Republic of Korea, to parents Sung Woo and Shim Kyung Nan and was one of 10 children. Shi attended Kyungdong High School and graduated from Seoul National University with a major in Economics. Shi served as a Captain in the Korean Air Force. He moved to the United States in October 1971 and married Kyuwon in December 1971. He received a Masters Degree in Economics from George Washington University. Shi was a current employee of Kyndryl and had spent the majority of his career at IBM for 45 years. Shi was a Member of St. Paul Chung Catholic Church. When he was not working, he loved playing golf and fishing. However, nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family and being “Poppy” to his three grandchildren. A mass will be held at St. Paul Chung Catholic Church on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 10:00 am. The burial service will take place at Fairfax Memorial Park following the mass.
