Shirley Jean Barnes succumbed to her battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease at the age of 65 on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Born July 20, 1949 in Ville Platte, LA to Oscar Jerry McGee and Tessie W. Halmon. Shirley is survived by sisters, Pat Ellison and Lacey Price; daughters, Shellie McNabb and husband Devlyn McNabb of Las Cruces, NM; granddaughter, Morgan McNabb of Las Cruces NM, son, Stanton Morgan of Houston Texas; daughter, Stephanie Spencer and husband Mikell Spencer of Choctaw Oklahoma along with grandson, Logan Spencer; and granddaughter, Bailey Spencer. Shirley was an educator of children earning her Masters of Education from the University of Phoenix and later teaching for Albuquerque Public Schools to later retire from the same. Shirley lived and traveled to many places. Some of the places called home were Pasadena Texas, Las Vegas Nevada, Alamogordo, New Mexico and Albuquerque New Mexico. Shirley enjoyed playing golf and an occasional cocktail with friends. Many knew Shirley from her years as a bartender gaining and dispensing wisdom. She also contributed to charitable organizations and the well being of her students both in and out of the classroom. Shirley's sister Wyonia Faye Sharp and father Oscar Jerry McGee as well as her mother Tessie precede her in death. Services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2015. Rosary to begin at 10am followed by funeral mass at 10:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Church 4020 Lomas Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Graveside Services to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Pallbearers are Stephanie Spencer, Felipa Coon, Allan Sanchez, Martin Montano, Devlyn McNabb, and Juan Enriquez. Reception to be held at Blake Road Baptist Church, 1704 Blake Rd SW, Albuquerque, NM, 87105 immediately following services. Arrangements entrusted Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque, 225 San Mateo, Albuquerque, NM 87108 (505) 764-9663. In Lieu of flowers please direct donations to the COPD Foundation or any charity promoting lung health. The family would like to give special thanks to Martin Montano and partner Allan Sanchez for opening their hearts and home to our beloved mother. Their years of friendship are priceless. Shirley's true friend, Felipa Coon, played an integral part in support both in professional and personal friendships. Shirley was tenacious, spirited, and devoted a legacy that will truly live on in her children and grandchildren.
