Shirley Brown
December 12th, 1928 - March 4th, 2021
Obituary Shirley Irene Brown died March 4, 2021 at the age of 92. Shirley was born in Fort Collins Dec.12, 1928 to Marshall and Grace O'Brien. She had deep pioneer roots in Fort Collins. Shirley's grandfather, William O'Brien, emigrated from Scotland to Fort Collins in 1887 and was joined by his wife Jane (Fraser) O'Brien in 1890. William O'Brien served for many years as the Superintendent of the college farm at Colorado A & M. Their son Marshall married Grace Snyder and they had three daughters Caroline, Shirley, and Margaret. Shirley graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1946, attended Colorado A & M and belonged to Kappa Alpha Theta sorority with which she was an active alumnus for many years. While working as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell, she met and married Allen J. Brown (known to her as Brownie) who was working as a lineman for the phone company. They had four children Gregory, Steven, Thomas and Jane. For Shirley and Brownie, family was everything and much time was spent together camping, picnicking, sailing, ice skating, visiting National Parks and spending time at the family ranch. Shirley' s passing was preceded by Brownie's in 1988. She is survived by children Greg Brown (Martha), Steve Brown (Susan), Tom Brown (Rikelle) and Jane List (Tom). Her much loved grandchildren are Allison Raisley (Kevin), Laura Brown, Bobby, Nick (Jaime), and Brian List, and Spencer, Caroline, and Tori Brown. Niece Lisa Kennedy (Ben) and her family were a vital part of her life, also. Her new great-granddaughter, Harper Grace Raisley, brought much joy to her last days. Shirley's family would like to thank her wonderful care teams from Homewell Care Services and Pathways Hospice. She considered them part of her family and they provided peace of mind, amazing care, and lots of good opportunities to share her stories and wonderful sense of humor.
