Shirley Howard

Shirley Louise Howard, age 97, passed away on June 24 at Westminster-Suncoast Manor, St. Petersburg, Florida where she had resided for eighteen years. She enjoyed good health throughout her long life until recently. Shirley was born Shirley Potter, on July 29, 1922 to IdaBelle and V. O. Potter in Sharon, Pennsylvania and she grew up in New Castle, Pennsylvania. She married Crawford L. “Rusty” Richards and had two daughters, Pamela and Kathy. Shirley was widowed in 1958. She later married William L. “Bill” Howard. After their retirement, they moved from New Castle to St. Petersburg, Florida. Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband, Crawford Richards, her daughter Pamela Glass, her granddaughter Kelly Bates (Glass) and her second husband William Howard, her brother Donald Potter (Margaret)and her sister Lenora Christoph (George). She is survived by her daughter Kathy Sullivan (David), her nephew Richard Potter, grandchildren Jon Glass (Kristin), Kristine Larkin (Duane), Scott Davis (Laurie), fifteen great-grandchildren and friends Ann Brooks, William Wilson and friends and staff at Westminster-Suncoast Manor. A formal funeral will not be conducted. When travel is more convenient under current pandemic restrictions and recommendations, Shirley’s ashes will be transported to New Castle for interment with her husband Crawford Richards.
