Shirley May McAbee

March 1st, 1936 - January 3rd, 2018

Shirley May McAbee, 81, of Homedale, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2018 at her daughter-in-law’s home in Nampa, ID. She was born in Pine River, MN to parents, Carl and Beulah Rowen. The family moved to Homedale, ID in 1940, when Shirley was 4 years old. She stated first grade and graduated from Homedale High School in1954. Shirley was previously married. To this marriage they adopted 3 children, Dairo, William and Kathlene. Shirley was divorced in 1987. She married Eugene McAbee December 5, 1993. They raised a great-grandson, Luke Beck from the time he was 4 months old to almost 8. They adopted 3 grandchildren, Allen, Jacob and Kimberly McAbee. On May 18, 2016, they adopted Lukas. Shirley worked many jobs aside from being a mother. Her favorite job outside the home was working for the Homedale Senior Center as the coordinator for 14 years. She said that she wanted to learn all she could about the job. She loved working with the other employees and volunteers. Shirley is survived by her husband, Eugene McAbee; children, William (Doris), Kathlene Vincent, Allen McAbee, Jacob McAbee, Kimberley McAbee and Lukas Beck McAbee (great-grandson); 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a nephew and his wife and a special ex-daughter-in-law, Pam Garner. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Beulah Rowen; a sister and brother-in-law, Pearl Ann and Forrest Dietz; sister, Joyce Marie; two brothers, whom were lost at birth and the other at 10 years old; both sets of her grandparents, Rowen and Watt; two nephews; her oldest son, Dairo Lynn Garner; step-children, Butch McAbee and Debbie McAbee; a step-grandson and one step-great-grandson. A viewing for Shirley will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Homedale and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Homedale LDS Church. My thoughts and prayers to all the families involved. Gene you and Shirley were a great team with big hearts. Shirley you taught me many things each time we were together. We had lots of good times a few sad . know you are in my thoughts. Rest well my friend.
