Shirley Rose

Shirley Rose, 66, passed on to her heavenly home on Tuesday morning, November 29, 2016 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Christmas Day in Scott County, VA to the late Charles Rueben and Elta Marie Jones and had lived the majority of her life in Kingsport. She was manager of Mr. Clark's Furniture Store for over 30 years and loved working with the public, as she never met a stranger. Shirley loved to cook and take care of her loved ones. She loved watching the Lady Vols and the Atlanta Braves, but nothing gave her more joy than loving and spoiling her grandchildren. She faithfully attended Homeland Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Wanda Jones Clark; nephew, Austin Jones; niece, Shanna Jones; foster parents, Hughie and Beulah McGhee; and her lifelong friend, Linda Vaughn. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Ray Rose; daughters, Ronda Bishop Lane and husband, Mike, of Kingsport, Anita Rose and husband, Jim, of Knoxville; sons, Barry Bishop, of Johnson City, Matthew Rose and wife, Kristal, of Kingsport; grandchildren, Taylor Lane and Emilee Lane of Kingsport and Mason Rose of Jonesborough; sisters, Darlene Calton and husband, Aaron, of Kingsport, Kaye Thompson and friend, Farrell Coleman, of Bowie, MD; brothers, Jim Jones and wife, Peggy, of Fall Branch, Charlie Jones and wife, Jan, of Kingsport, J.K. Jones and wife, Pat, of Mount Carmel, David Jones and wife, Vickie, of Kingsport, Billy Jones and wife, Tammie, of Edinburg, VA; nieces, Bekki (Dow) Cox and Lindsay Jones (Travis); nephews, Jimmie (Mary Jo) Jones, Jason (Rebecca) Jones, Scott Jones, Nathan Thompson (Violet), Chris Jones (Crystal), Scottie Jones (Lynn), Anthony Jones (Sarah); aunts and uncles, Anna Belle Jones, George (Ona) Jones, Betty Jones, Wilma Williams and Dot Williams; foster siblings, Janice Ferguson, Jody Depew, Libby Woodworth, Johnny McGhee, Paul McGhee, Gary McGhee, and David McGhee; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1st from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, with services following at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. David Harrison and Johnny McGhee officiating. Friends may also call any time at the residence. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 2nd at 11:00 am at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her brothers, Jim Jones, Charlie Jones, Kenny Jones, David Jones, Billy Jones and Johnny McGhee, and her best friend, Jim Clark. All those wishing to go in procession are asked to meet at Carter-Trent Funeral Home at 10:00 am . Shirley loved her church and church family dearly, therefore the family is asking that in lieu of flowers that you please donate in her honor to the Homeland Baptist Church Building Fund, 2504 Hawaii Street, Kingsport, TN 37660. The family appreciates the care provided by Advanced Home Health and Wellmont Hospice, and a very special thank you to Alethia Lee and Susanna Holmes for their love and friendship during this time.
