Mrs. Shirley M. Shoop, age 92, of Gloversville, passed away Tuesday morning, July 9, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 9, 1926 in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Arthur and Lena Schlager Franz. She was employed as a Presser/Tester by Decca Record Company for many years until her retirement. Shirley was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit. She enjoyed playing golf at Holland Meadows, jigsaw puzzles, reading, visits to the casino and especially Yahtzee. Her family was always first and she enjoyed family events, especially with her grandchildren's school and sporting events. Survivors include four children, Susan Tagliatela and Patricia Capparello of Gloversville, Albert Gugenberger (Cynthia) of Arizona and Nancy Insogna (Joe) of Caroga Lake; five step-children, John Shoop (Marie) of Gloversville, Judy Swart (Steve) of Mayfield, Jane Roe (Robert) of Galway, Valerie Shoop of Gloversville and Barbara McGrattan (Ed) of Rochester; a sister, Carolyn Krue (James) of Buffalo; 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by both of her husbands, Elwin Gugenberger and John A. Shoop; four sisters and brothers, Ruth Hayes, Arlene Murray, Patricia Moslow-Bork and Arthur Franz Jr; The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7pm Thursday, July 11 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00pm Friday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville, with the Rev. Matthew Wetsel officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave; Gloversville, NY 12078.
