Shirley Smith Wilson
August 1st, 1936 - January 18th, 2022
Shirley Smith Wilson, 85, of Summerfield, NC passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. A native of Kernersville, NC, Shirley was the daughter of Milton Eugene Smith and Lorene Walker Smith, both deceased. Shirley retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company, Greensboro, NC with over 39 years of service. She was a faithful member of Stokesdale Baptist Church for over 25 years. Shirley loved working in her yard, tending to her flowers and enjoying her many animals. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, and making dresses for all of her granddaughters. Survivors include her daughter, Debra Matherly and husband, George; sons, William Wilson and wife, Wendy, Blake Wilson and wife, Robin, and Barry Wilson and wife, Susan; seven grandchildren, Crystal Gillenwater and husband, Grady, Toni Prevette and husband, Michael, Kryestyn Grant and spouse, Jessica, Macey Reid and husband, Clint, Kacie Wilson, Andy Wilson, and Hailey Wilson; eight great grandchildren, Emma Gillenwater, Remi Grant, Blakely Reid, Hailey Gillenwater, Gabriel Gillenwater, Aiden Gillenwater, Adam Moore, and Krysta Prevette; and one great-great grandchild, Westyn Moore. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her three brothers, Milton Eugene “Sonny” Smith, Jr., Billy Ray Smith, and James Irving “Jamie” Smith. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00PM Monday, January 24, 2022 at Mt. Gur Cemetery, Kernersville, NC.
