Simon J. Kistemaker

Dr. Simon J Kistemaker, affectionately known as "Dr. K", eagerly anticipated his invitation into eternal life with his Lord and Savior on September 23, 2017. A humble man and gentle soul, Dr. K diligently accepted the blessings and hardships that marked his life on earth. Born in 1930 during the Great Depression and surviving the years of the World War II occupation in The Netherlands, Dr. K immigrated to Canada at the age of 17. God's leading and provision called him to study at Calvin College, the University of Michigan, Calvin Seminary, and the Free University of Amsterdam where he received his Doctorate of Theology. This prepared him for a lifetime of service in the field of education in classical languages and New Testament theology. For 52 years he taught tens of thousands of students at Calvin College, Dordt College, Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS and Orlando FL, and as visiting professor at numerous seminaries around the world. An accomplished author, his greatest privilege was to complete the New Testament Commentary Series started by William Hendriksen. Additionally, he shared his wisdom as a faithful Sunday School teacher for many decades. He excelled at languages and enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruits of his labors with students, neighbors, friends and family. He was a kind and gracious man, a faithful servant of the King. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife and companion of 61 years, Jean, his seven children and their spouses, 22 grandchildren and their spouses and 12 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kistemaker Scholarship Fund at the Reformed Theological Seminary.
