“Father Knows Best” Roger Huston Smith Jr. went peacefully to be with the Lord on October 26, 2014 in Aurora, CO at the age of 40. Roger is survived by his parents, Roger and Louise Smith of Littleton CO, his children, Leshay Nicole Smith and Roger Huston Smith III of Atlanta GA; his siblings, Anthony Dion Smith and Davone Jerome Smith of Aurora CO, Diane Hoheisel of Garden Plain Kansas and Denise Gutierrez of Phoenix Arizona, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. He is preceded into eternal life by his grandparents Gilbert and Eula Smith and Willie and Lucille Gardner of Claremont California. Roger was born on May 26, 1974 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Pasadena California to Roger and Louise Smith. He graduated from John Muir High School in Pasadena California in June 1992. While very young Roger was identified as gifted and talented and attended early age training at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena California. Roger loved music and played first chair tenor saxophone at the 1985 All City Instrumental Music Festival, where he performed Handle’s Messiah and Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. While in high school he also was an academic all-American where he lettered in Football and Baseball. After high school Roger attended the University of Colorado where he was a redshirt freshman playing for Coach Bill McCarthy’s Buffalos in 1992. After leaving college Roger began working as a custom home builder, building and designing homes in Franktown, Lone Tree, Centennial, Arvada, Castle Rock, Westminster, and North Carolina. Roger was auto-cad certified and most recently worker for Armstrong Steel Inc. in Greenwood Village, CO where he designed steel buildings. Roger was a generous individual who loved people, the Word of God, as well as listening to Bishop T.D. Jakes and Crefelo Dollar. He was a regular attender at Word of Life Christian Center in Lone Tree Colorado where Dr. Mark T. Bagwell presides as the Senior Pastor. A celebration service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday November 10, 2014 at the Potter’s House of Denver Chapel located at 9495 E. Florida Avenue, Denver Colorado 80247, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Pastor Rodney Baptiste of The Potter’s House of Denver will officiate the celebration. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Roger’s life. The family would like to thank Potter’s House of Denver’s Pastors and staff, The Word of Life Christian Center Pastors and staff as well as all family and friends that have been so loving, supportive and gracious during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Potter’s House of Denver Chapel, for Boy Scout Troop #7777.
