"Belchertown, Sophie (Opielowski) Handzel, 88, of Shea Ave, died peacefully on Thursday November 10 at home. Born in Belchertown, October 18, 1923, she was the daughter of Ignatius and Nellie (Pilch) Opielowski. Sophie was a lifelong resident and belonged to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Palmer. She and her husband owned and operated Nu-Way Stainless Steel in Palmer before retiring. She will be deeply missed by her children, James R. Handzel and his wife Mary of Evergreen, CO, and Deborah Brunell and her husband James of Belchertown. She also leaves a sister Anna Tyburski of Thorndike, along with her 4 grandchildren, Jillian and Jason Brunell, James Handzel, Jr., and Charleen Handzel Orzek, along with 2 great grandchildren, Avery Orzek and Ashlynn Brunell. A graveside service will be Tuesday November 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Palmer, MA. For those wishing, donations may be made in her memory to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 133 Old Palmer Rd., Brimfield, 01010. "
